In my eleven years of teaching I have come across almost every type of voice.  Everyone always asks me,  “Can anyone learn how to sing?”  After eleven years I can honestly say that anyone who has the drive and passion for singing can most definitely learn how.  All it takes is a little training, practice and a lot of heart.  The technique that I offer is one that can be learned by all ages.  Its basis is simple.  Singing is so closely related to speaking, but is seldom thought of as the same.  How simple would it be if it were just as easy to sing, as it is to speak?

Through a series of vocal exercises we train the voice to relate singing with speaking.  As a singer I am sure you are all familiar with that ever-difficult switch in the voice that happens when you go from your chest voice (the low voice) to your head voice (the higher voice).  That switch happens as a result of your larynx reaching too high to compensate for the notes getting higher.  With vocal exercises we learn how to re-train the larynx to stay in it’s “speaking level” as we sing higher.  By keeping the larynx at the same level, it makes the voice sound the same when you go through the switch.  The result is one smooth continuous voice.

Over the years my students have sung Musical Theater, Country, Folk, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Motown, Christian Contemporary, even Classical.  This technique is so versatile you can sing just about any kind of music you have your heart set on.

For more detailed information about the technique you can visit the website of Billy Purnell, my mentor, at www.voicetraining.com  You can also order the  “Voice Training For Singers” in home study program from the web site.
